This place is new since I've been to Springfield about 20 years ago. unbelievable barbecue. Friendly servers. The menu is very clear to understand and the portions are huge. I got a small chili for lunch and it was phenomenal. They've let you get your own pickles and barbecue sauce. Also love the map on the wall and the emphasis on supporting veterans.
Cornbread was large & delicious (no jalapeños). Ribs, brisket, pork are all great and flavorful, bbq sauce not required. The green beans were great and collards good too - had to add a little salt to them but rather that than overly salted. Pickles, onions, sauce, condiments bar available. Went twice during a short work trip it was so tasty!
We were traveling to Columbus and hungry, saw the billboard for Rudy's and thought we'd try it if we got there in time. We did & it was very good. Thank you for having a billboard!
After reviewing this 8 years ago, decided to try it again. Service was much better. Tried some ribs and pulled pork. Fall off the bone ribs. Tender and ok. Baked beans were much better. Tried the corn bread. Large piece enough to share. Scalloped corn was not our taste. Sweet potato casserole was ok. It's a serve yourself on drinks. They had an eclectic choice of cola, lemonade, black cherry on tap. The stereo was a little loud but it was a big improvement over my last visit.
BBQ itself was decent. The brisket was tender - not juicy, but i get that can be hard to keep up in a restaurant setting. I'd say the rub was a little heavy for my taste (brisket is my Thing & we smoke at home - I've been to National competitions, so i feet like ive got enogh background on this to be judgy). I just started working in Springfield and have been to Rudy's twice already. Pulled pork last week catfish today. Both were excellent. Today we had 15 in our group and they took great care of us.
Good food, decent prices and service. My favorite thing on their menu is the scalloped corn.
Great service, great prices, loved the craft sodas on tap. However, the sauces are too extreme! The sweet is sickly sweet, the bourbon tastes like a teriyaki sauce, and the hot lives up to its name. A mild sauce in the dining area would be so beneficial. Carolina Style came with slaw but no Carolina sauce after the up-charge. Scalloped potatoes were tasty.
Very good food very quick and friendly service. A great place to eat. A very homey atmosphere. If you love barbecue, this is where you need to be.
